SWAN-H is a young startup, based on an invention made at “Université Paul Sabatier de Toulouse” to make ammonia in a mild and energy efficient way. Why is this important? Ammonia is the most energy dense and easy to handle way to store hydrogen. It is therefore the perfect carbon free replacement for fossil fuels.
The innovation of our process lies in the reduction of dinitrogen, from air, under mild conditions, using a chemical mediator. We transform nitrogen to ammonia via chemistry and electrochemistry. For the industrialisation of the process, all steps that are currently carried out chemically must be carried out electrochemically. The proof-of-principle for this has been done, but how to do this efficiently, reproducibly and on a larger scale?
To achieve these ambitious goals, we are seeking an electrochemist to join the team lead by Nicolas Mézailles, the inventor of the process. Working along-side the electrochemistry lab manager, Dancheng Legrand, you will be fully in charge of a key aspect of our research strategy. You will design and conduct experiments aiming to improve and scale the electrochemistry aspects of our process.
This is a unique opportunity to become employee number three of a start-up already supported by the French Banque Publique d’Investissement (BPI), a group of private investors and lead by an experienced team of four Franco-Dutch founders.
Are you a PhD in electrochemistry with hands-on experience in cell-design, membranes, electrodes and complex chemical reactions taking place in electrochemical cells?
Do you have an excellent understanding of commercially available materials, and the ability to translate this to the requirements of the process under development?
