We are currently recruiting for a Senior QC manager to help us on our labs digital journey. This role is responsible for managing and further developing personnel in the QC Laboratory. This includes managing teams in QC Operations (Microbiology & Chemistry) and AS&T (Analytical Science & Technology). Success in this role will require an ability to proactively partner with key stakeholders to provide a high-quality product in the most efficient manner. This includes optimising work processes in the Lab through timely completion of projects as well as the enhancement of Lab Test Methods. A typical day in this role will include:

  • Create and maintain a high-performance collaborative Laboratory team with focus on customer needs, compliance and efficient operation;
  • Lead, develop and motivate Laboratory and AS&T professionals by providing feedback to direct reports through performance reviews, recognition, career conversations and coaching;
  • Lead and demonstrate expertise in the areas of Chemistry and Microbiology in-line with Quality System requirements, ISO standards and corporate requirements;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve Lab Efficiencies;
  • Actively participate in external audits by Notified Bodies and Health Authorities and lead audit preparation activities within the Laboratory & AS&T group;
  • Manage and provide guidance to non-conformance investigations ensuring formal structured approach to root cause analysis and problem solving, ensuring adequate corrective actions and prevention plans are implemented;
  • Interact effectively with Engineering, Local and Divisional R&D, R&D QA and other manufacturing facilities to support the introduction of new technologies, product transfers and continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Ensure Lab equipment performance is maintained by preventative maintenance of lab equipment and adequate Laboratory systems;
  • Hold Laboratory and AS&T team accountable to project timelines, ensuring any potential delays are escalated as necessary;
  • Work cross functionally to deliver on the site strategic targets and objectives;
  • Manage Laboratory and AS&T resources to meet budgetary requirements and prepare budget submissions for area of responsibility;
  • Provide oversite and guidance to all areas within Laboratory & AS&T.

What You Will Bring to Alcon:

  • Must have Degree from an accredited institution in an Engineering, Science or related discipline;
  • 8+ years relevant experience in Medical Device or Pharma with at least 5 years in a management/supervisory/leadership role;
  • Chemistry experience is a must for this role;
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory Quality System requirements (QSR), ISO standard requirements and applicable industry standards (AAMI standards, EN/ISO Standards), FDA regulations.;
  • Must be capable of organizing and directing technical projects, planning, scheduling, allocating resources and multi-tasking;
  • Must be capable of motivating and managing a team of highly technical ambitious people with a variety of skills to achieve company objectives;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have demonstrated the ability to lead in a previous role.
