General Description:

Reporting to the Country Medical Director, the Associated Medical Director Portugal is a local key expert within the indication area of hematology and the region, directly supporting the Country MD with the respective product assets through development, pre-marketing, launch, marketing support and lifecycle management.

This includes all areas of local Medical Affairs activities such as support of safe and appropriate product use, data-generation, data-dissemination and HCP interactions, with responsibility for the generation of medical strategy development.

He/she will also organize National Advisory Boards and coordinate & supervise local Advisory Boards in the field.

He/she needs to ensure compliance with Regional directives for, amongst others, the release of promotional material, medical representative training materials, and medical information.

He/she will lead and participate in Regional Medical and Scientific forums (i.e., advisory boards and educational) that involve scientific leaders.

The incumbent will manage and supervise Scientific Advisors of the region.

The role requires close interaction and collaboration with other functions (Market Access, Marketing and Commercial teams).

The incumbent will play a key role in the establishment of BeiGene as a valued collaborator and best-in-class biopharmaceutical company.

Essential Functions of the job:

The Associate Medical Director Portugal will be responsible for the organization of National Advisory Boards and coordination and lead of local Advisory Boards in the field. In addition, she/he will supply medical insight into promotional material along with learning materials for internal and external use and actively contribute medical and scientific input to relevant internal Brand(s) and Managed Markets teams regarding product strategy. The Associate Medical Director will also contribute to medical input for local investigator initiated research strategy.

Additional representative responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Support the generation of local medical strategy according to the global medical plans;
  • Provide education to the medical community on BeiGene products and disease areas of focus;
  • Facilitate responses to unsolicited requests for medical information, often in direct collaboration with BeiGene Medical Information Services personnel;
  • Provide impactful feedback/information to internal stakeholders on emerging clinical and scientific trends from external interactions to help shape company research, and to ensure the safe and appropriate use of BeiGene products;
  • Build specific excellence and integrity within the healthcare community. Develop contacts with key clinicians, university teaching hospitals, group purchase organizations and other medical/scientific groups;
  • Act as a clinical resource with professional and advocacy organizations with the objective of developing relationships and identifying potential business opportunities;
  • Assist in the development and execution of clinically relevant regional medical meetings (e.g. advisory boards, consultancy and investigator meetings), as requested;
  • Support company-sponsored clinical trials program. In addition to generation of scientific data to support medical claims, provide input to market access and HEOR for the generation of health economic outcome data to support reimbursement;
  • Ensure compliance with regional directives for, amongst others, the release of promotional material, medical representative training materials, and medical information;
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders for and on behalf of BeiGene in all relevant areas to promote the Company’s reputation, dedication to patients, and expertise in these areas;
  • Support training programs for new starters and establish continuous training support to all local departments. Ensure training records are conducted and filed with the utmost integrity according to internal requirements.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 -10 years of experience and success within other biotech/pharmaceutical companies;
  • Experience of working in a local, regional role/multi country set-up of advantage;
  • Preferably a track record of experience (clinical and industry) in the field of Haemato-Oncology/Oncology;
  • High level of communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, and cross functional collaboration skills;
  • Flexibility to work with colleagues in an International setting;
  • Able to engage in work-related travel approximately 50%;
  • Track record of management of a medical team.

Education Required:

  • MD or PhD, with relevant clinical/scientific experience in the indication field of hematology; experience in Medical Affairs required and a minimum of 5 years industry experience. Experience in Clinical Development is of advantage.

  • An expert understanding of the Spanish health care delivery system, including the managed care arena and its impact on patient care, local medical care and the pharmaceutical industry. Ability to identify the unmet medical, educational, and research needs at a local (& regional) level in the medical community;
  • Ability to interpret key scientific data and translate the findings to meet educational and research needs to affect corporate research strategic activities/decisions;
  • Understanding of the design and execution of research studies and strategic implications;
  • Exhibits high degree of emotional intelligence and appreciation of diversity and multiculturalism;
  • Understands and is a true believer in the power of teamwork;
  • Designs and/or leads training initiatives and best practices;
  • Proven ability to drive results at a high level of quality as a strategic and creative thinker;
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with ambiguity and thrive in an ever-changing environment;
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage projects and/or colleagues in successful implementation of business-critical projects;
  • Strong time management & organizational skills.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Experienced with electronic CRM systems.

Other Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Travel:

  • Travel is expected within Portugal as well as to international and global meetings;
  • Participation at major congresses.
