Astex is seeking to appoint an experienced and influential medicinal chemistry leader; passionate about working on FBDD in close collaboration with scientists across computational chemistry, structural biology, drug discovery translational bioscience, and DMPK. The role requires high scientific rigour, and a desire to challenge and stimulate colleagues through scientific discussion. They will also have extensive medicinal chemistry experience, including lead optimisation, DMPK problem solving, a strong scientific reputation, including an outstanding publication history, a track record of leading drug discovery project teams and delivering high quality compounds to clinical trials. Experience with neuroscience and/or transmembrane targets would be desirable.
The director of medicinal chemistry will provide medicinal chemistry leadership on Astex portfolio projects, from target validation through fragments-to-leads, and lead optimisation stages, with an emphasis on structure-based drug design and state-of-the-art synthesis methodology. They will also contribute to the evolution of the chemistry department’s technology development and long-term strategy, apply innovative approaches to problem-solving and promote cross disciplinary interactions.
