Summary

We are looking for a Group Lead Bioinformatics to lead the Bioinformatics team in the Genomics Services department. As the Group Lead Bioinformatics, you will lead a team of bioinformaticians in developing and maintaining new methodologies and computational strategies for clinical trial testing. Your role involves managing the team, fostering innovation, and ensuring the integration of bioinformatics with other Genomics Services teams. This position requires collaboration across departments to enhance research capabilities and support our mission in genomics discovery. Your leadership will be key in the Genomics Services growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, train and grow a team of bioinformaticians;
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for bioinformatics in intra- and interdepartmental discussions; ensures he/she is up to date with the state of the art technology in his/her domain of expertise;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of new bioinformatics features or pipelines;
  • Develop code for a bioinformatics analysis pipeline or for the configuration and implementation of off-the shelf bioinformatics software packages. Translating the end-user needs to user requirements and functional requirements can be part of the developing stage of the pipeline in which the Group Lead Bioinformatics will actively participate;
  • Oversee correct operation of the software and if necessary implements adaptations for improvement;
  • Train the staff for the correct use of the software. In case of in-house software or major adaptations to existing software were done, the Group Lead Bioinformatics will make sure a user manual is available;
  • Implement new bioinformatics procedures and processes.

Required education

  • PhD or equivalent experience in bioinformatics combined with in-depth knowledge of high-throughput sequencing data analysis.

Qualification and Skills

  • 5 years of industry experience as a Bioinformatician;
  • A minimum of 2 years (5 years preferred) direct managerial experience, with demonstrated success in the formation and management of multi-disciplinary teams, including technical leadership and mentorship;
  • Demonstrated scientific leadership, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and on budget, preferably in an industrial environment;
  • Team player, collaborative, self-motivated, with positive thinking and “can-do” attitude;
  • Expertise in pipeline development, R, Python, Nextflow, SQL, Linux environments, and cloud computing, promoting best practices in scientific computing research;
  • Experience working in CAP/CLIA/ISO13485 accredited environments is differentiator;
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), influencing and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to engage constructively with colleagues internally at all levels across different departments.
