As a both an office- and laboratory-based role, the Senior Development Scientist is responsible, as a scientific lead and expert, for the management and conduct of internal and external studies, either as part of hLab only business or in the development and validation of new methodologies and reagents for subsequent utilisation in hLab. The Senior Development Scientist will provide Scientific Operational support for hLab and will also provide scientific mentorship and scientific staff development of other hLab junior staff as well as conducting study plans, report reviews and data analysis.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, planning and execution of laboratory-based studies assigned to meet the research needs of the department;
  • Be responsible for the delivery of internal and client contracted research projects and to supervise junior team members in the conduct of the study;
  • Report analysed data within the department, to clients and to other divisions, when required;
  • Collating and analysing scientific data both from internal studies and Sponsor-based projects and advise on scientific integrity and data interpretation;
  • Ensure that the conduct of the research projects for which they are responsible for are conducted in accordance with the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), controlled methods and regulatory guidance;
  • Assist in the operational management and business development activities of hLab;
  • Provide support to pre-clinical and clinical studies as it relates to scientific expertise;
  • Build and maintain close-working relationships between the other departments within hVIVO;
  • Support hLAB Development management in the recruitment process;
  • Support the hLAB Development management in keeping abreast of new technologies and partners that can help evolve our in-house capabilities and offerings;
  • Provide support and, as required, lead the writing and reviewing of publications to showcase hVIVO research in appropriate peer reviewed journals.

Skills & Experiences

  • Significant industry experience, operational management preferable;
  • Experience in applying theoretical and working knowledge of virology;
  • Experience in scientific project management;
  • Demonstration of considerable knowledge/expertise within relevant discipline;
  • Good working knowledge of GLP/GCP standards;
  • Experience of working directly with research teams to implement and deliver research protocols;
  • Experience in conduct of immunological & virological techniques;
  • Ability to professionally and scientifically advise;
  • Ability to lead a team in the planning and execution of laboratory work;
  • PhD essential.
