Brief Description

Implement and develop new processes and optimise drug substance scale up activities. Play a vital role in contributing and delivering pharmaceutical APIs. Use of chemical knowledge to prepare a wide range of compounds intermediates and API during drug development phases. Execute the synthesis, analysis, separation and/or purification on small (mg) to intermediate scales, supporting drug substance process development activities.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Maintain and provide in-depth knowledge and expertise on the drug development process;
  • Demonstrate competency and innovation on a range of complex laboratory skills and equipment;
  • Practical and theoretical understanding in a range of skills and technologies;
  • Maintain industry knowledge and keep abreast of relevant new technologies;
  • Record and review all experimental outcomes in an appropriate format;
  • Report and communicate project outcomes in an appropriate manner;
  • Interact with technical colleagues internally and external support businesses/CDMOs;
  • Identify and resolve promptly any problems occurring at any phase of a study, escalating to the line manager where necessary;
  • Maintain all areas of the laboratory in clean and tidy state;
  • Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues as required;
  • Ensure training record is maintained to cGxP;
  • Ensure all applicable quality measures are met and adhered to;
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of all relevant cGxP documents;
  • The role holder is responsible for maintaining cGxP and health and safety knowledge relevant to the role;
  • Contribute to regulatory documentation;
  • Contribute to process driven continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven communication skills including written and presentational;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Coaching and mentoring of less experienced colleagues;
  • Awareness of basic statistical principles;
  • Evaluate process improvements in collaboration with colleagues;
  • Use of a range of laboratory equipment (Purification and isolation techniques, NMR and LC-MS for structural determination);
  • Excellent working knowledge of HPLC;
  • Exhibit highly effective teamworking and communication skills as well as a motivation to solve synthetic and process chemistry problems;
  • Work in close partnership with analytical and engineering colleagues;
  • Maintain the highest standards of GMP, health and safety.

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Degree plus recent and relevant experience or PhD in relevant field;
  • Experience in data analysis is desirable
