To strengthen our Global Commercial organization, we are looking for a qualified: Director – Global Launch lead.

To excel in the role of our new Director - Global Launch Lead, your primary responsibility will be overseeing the launch of one of our products. This entails leading a cross-functional launch team, and this initiative comes on the heels of successfully concluding the Phase 3 program, with plans for regulatory submission in 2024. Your direct reporting line will be to our Executive Vice President - Chief Commercial Officer, and you will be an integral part of a commercial team comprising over 120 members. Our presence extends across various Bavarian Nordic locations, spanning Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, and the USA.

The position is remote working preferably in Switzerland or another European country where Bavarian Nordic is located (Germany, Denmark, Italy, or Spain). Additionally, anticipate approximately 30-40% international travel per year.

As the Director responsible for launching our product, you hold the key to our Strategy, Value Propositions, and the orchestration of the global roll-out. Your primary duty revolves around creating a comprehensive launch readiness plan and ensuring its successful execution across all functions. Your role is pivotal in guaranteeing the effective and synchronized implementation of this plan through the leadership of a cross-functional global launch team that spans various functions, including Medical, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Legal, and Supply Chain.

Our products are designed to optimize the benefits for both patients and healthcare professionals. This is achieved by ensuring that the functions align effectively, facilitated through clear communication, influence, and the timely identification of issues to facilitate the generation of constructive solutions.

This is how your work matters:

  • Develop and deliver launch strategy, plans, and budget recommendations;
  • Lead the cross-functional launch team;
  • Ensure alignment to franchise and program strategy;
  • Provide oversight and ongoing direction to the launch team members;
  • Contribute to the long-term global strategy and ensure its execution within the Travel Health franchise and the Program team.

In this position, you will be responsible for energizing and guiding the organization through a transformation aimed at launching our product. This entails creating an inspiring vision, gaining the support of top-level management, turning the vision into reality, and ensuring that the entire organization is in sync with it. You will engage with functional management on a consistent basis to identify and address any issues and keep a close watch on our progress. One of the challenges you will face is promoting the development of a more advanced organization that places a strong emphasis on collaboration and constructive feedback.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrated success and outcomes in cross-functional leadership roles in pharmaceutical/biotechnology/vaccine commercialization;
  • Track record of strong strategic thinking, coupled with effective implementation;
  • Hands-on leadership experience from at least 1 launch, preferably in vaccines;
  • Agility to operate in a nimble and global environment with a demonstrated knowledge of key markets, in particular the US, EU, Asia, and LatAm;
  • Possesses deep insights into launch management and commercialization, medical affairs, patient groups, policymakers, and regulatory and technical requirements;
  • Proven ability to grow a business and deliver results and flexibility to think in different scenarios;
  • MS/BS in science or business required, advanced degree a plus;
  • 15+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience required, at least 5 of which in a leadership position;
  • Experience in the vaccine industry is required.
