We are now recruiting a Regional Medical Director, Region South, Europe reporting to the Vice President International, Europe of the Global Medical Affairs team.

Who are you ?

You have an advanced degree, preferably medical, with five or more years of experience in the management of large medical teams.

You also have the following:

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong background in medical affairs and clinical practice
  • A broad and demonstrated understanding of drug development and commercialization process, as well as the regulatory environment
  • Experience being an active contributor to cross-functional teams and an ability to work efficiently and successfully within a matrix organization
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with solid business acumen and orientation
  • English language proficiency – it’s the working language of the European HQ!

Able to

  • Develop collaborative and impactful relationships across an organization, as well as with key external stakeholders and the healthcare community at large
  • Lead by example, demonstrating high integrity and a strong work ethic
  • Operate independently with sound judgement and confidence
  • Plan, organize, and get things done, with a sense of urgency when needed

By integrating AbbVie as a Regional Medical Director, Region South, Europe, you will help us to advance medicines with strong clinical performance in areas of great need, and ultimately work with us to turn world-class research into life-changing results.

Within this context, your principal responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensure appropriate affiliate resourcing, skills and capabilities are in place to support affiliate and global research and development activities, medical affairs activities, and business support, and provide clarity of Roles, Responsibilities & Accountability for medical affairs staff within region of geographic responsibility
  • Partner with regional and affiliate business partners and ensure regional and affiliate medical teams contribute valuable strategic/functional input to regional and affiliate cross-functional brand plans.
  • Coordinate development of local/regional evidence generation plans within region of geographic responsibility
  • Harmonize the goals and activities of the affiliate Medical Departments and identify opportunities for, and execute, synergistic programs.
  • Plan and manage budget and headcount resources for affiliate and regional medical affairs staff within region of geographic responsibility
  • Provide medical support for and help develop and maintain professional and credible relationships with top tier global external experts and academic centers to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on the products and areas of therapeutic interest, as well as to engage in collaborative efforts such as potential research collaborations
  • Serve as senior leader level contact with development therapeutic area, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, QA, clinical operations, and commercial leadership teams for all medical affairs activities within region of geographic responsibility
  • Be a strategic collaborator in, and contributor to, affiliate and Regional FutureFit, Infield-medical excellence and Brand Teams, and ensure medical alignment with local and regional objectives where possible
  • Take responsibility for recruiting, retaining, and mentoring high potential employees, and ensuring that a talent pool exists for a dynamic and changing organization
  • Ensure adherence to applicable company standards, policies, and procedures
