The Medicinal Chemistry department at our main research site in Biberach an der Riß, Germany, has been continuously growing and we continue to hire medicinal chemists at all levels of experience to join our team of successful drug hunters.

In this role, you will contribute to our multidisciplinary drug discovery teams in human pharma or animal health across all phases of research, from hit finding to candidate delivery.

Joining us directly from academia, your responsibilities will continuously increase with your growing expertise and leadership skills with the outlook to lead a medicinal chemistry laboratory.

If you are an experienced medicinal chemist with a proven track-record in drug discovery, you will drive research teams as a project leader in an international environment fostering team science and empowerment.

The mission of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry is to deliver high quality, first-in-class drug candidates within competitive timelines. It is our ambition to strongly contribute to new therapeutic concepts and modalities for any target of interest. Therefore, we strive for excellence in drug design and synthesis as well as world class expertise in lead identification & optimization.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will analyze complex data sets to generate structure-activity relationships and hypotheses for optimization;
  • You will design biologically active compounds, prioritize target compounds and plan as well as execute their synthesis;
  • In addition, you will provide scientific support and technical training of research associates;
  • Furthermore, you will contribute to interdisciplinary, partially global research teams with the goal to identify novel drugs;
  • You will also discuss, present and publish research results internally and externally;
  • As Head of Laboratory you will be accountable for the efficient and timely progress of projects and the synthetic activities in your laboratory.


  • PhD in preparative organic chemistry. Postdoctoral experience in synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or related sciences is a plus;
  • Comprehensive and state of the art knowledge of modern synthetic methodologies as well as a basic understanding of molecular properties;
  • Successful delivery of results, both independently and in team settings;
  • Intercultural competencies, ideally shown by experience abroad;
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English as well as willingness to adopt a basic command of the German language;
  • Several years of practical experience in leading projects with several team members.
