The Pharmacometrics Group

Within Pharmacometrics (PMx) at Boehringer Ingelheim we apply a question-based, fit-for-purpose approach to inform drug development with state-of-the-art PMx strategies and PMx analyses that include but are not limited to population pharmacokinetics, exposure-response, disease progression modeling, model-based meta-analysis and PBPK.

We strive to implement model-informed drug development (MIDD) in projects as well as across projects and disease areas in order to optimize study designs and to inform drug development strategies, decision-making and successful approval. Our aim is to foster the quantitative understanding of diseases and pharmacological interventions in close collaboration with other disciplines. This is why our global PMx group the individual teams set up with a focus on therapeutic areas (TA).

We believe that every member of the PMx group should be empowered to shape the future of PMx at Boehringer Ingelheim by actively contributing or leading internal and external working groups focusing on e.g. PBPK, disease strategies, innovative methods, IT, standardization and processes.

Team Lead Pharmacometrics (for the TA Oncology)

The team leader pharmacometrics (PMx) ensures appropriate application of MIDD throughout all phases of development with focus on internal decision making and successful registration. You provide strategic leadership to develop and maintain a highly competitive and regulatory compliant PMx team using state-of-the-art technologies and approaches in agreement with global PMx strategy/goals.

You coach, mentor, and raise the PMx team's ability to deliver and exceed expectations while creating and maintaining an open atmosphere and attractive working environment as well as opportunities for individual development.

The position can either be filled in Biberach or Ingelheim.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As a team leader within global PMx, you ensure the development and implementation of clinical pharmacology and PMx/MIDD strategies for clinical drug development projects in your team;
  • You are responsible for appropriate planning, execution, and reporting of a wide variety of pharmacometric analyses on a clinical trial, project and disease level by your team;
  • You represent PMx for your therapeutic area in the respective TA in our department’s (TMCP – translational medicine and clinical pharmacology) strategy team where you discuss and align approaches for a TA across projects, together with biomarker experts, and representatives from ClinPK/PD and digital TMCP;
  • Together with a team leader from ClinPK/PD you lead TA meetings between the two groups to align strategies, analyses and results for the various projects within a therapeutic area;
  • As member of the PMx leadership team, you significantly contribute to the development and implementation of global PMx goals and strategies, set directions and ensure continuous improvement of our methods and processes;
  • You are responsible for resource management, administration and talent development in your team: You efficiently lead employees from the onboarding process, to the regular performance assessment with constructive feedback and foster further development;
  • You will contribute to and maintain an open atmosphere within our attractive working environment, i.e. you set an example for a performance-based team culture with clear accountabilities and a sense of urgency for achieving results;
  • In your leadership function, you represent global PMx at relevant internal and external meetings and promote PMx and MIDD;
  • If desired, you can take on different roles in our clinical development teams with increasing responsibilities: as a project pharmacometrician, a clinical pharmacology and pharmacometric integrator, or lead the early clinical development (ECD) team as the ECD integrator.

Requirements

  • PhD/MD from an accredited institution in Medicine or Pharmacometrics, Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics or equivalent area of focus with several years experiences in PMx in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory agencies or academia;
  • Successful track record of managing and developing direct reports is beneficial;
  • Experienced in applying PMx software (e.g., NONMEM, Monolix, R, SAS and PKSim);
  • Proficient knowledge in clinical pharmacology, clinical drug development, MIDD, and regulatory guidelines;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate a vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates a team and focuses their energy on achieving business goals;
  • Willingness to continuous personnel and subject-specific development;
  • Enthusiastic personality, with the constructive willingness to succeed with the team.
