Join Lonza's Vector Engineering R&D team in Cambridge and contribute to the development of next-generation CHO cell lines and gene expression platforms that advance biologics manufacturing. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture while working on innovative technologies that have the potential to improve therapies for patients worldwide.

This role is primarily based 100% on site. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do:

  • Generate novel vector platforms incorporating synthetic genetic elements to enhance cellular production capabilities;
  • Design, construct and evaluate next-generation expression vectors using modern molecular biology techniques;
  • Test vector systems in transient and stable expression formats, including high-level expression of complex biologics in fed-batch cultures;
  • Perform mammalian cell culture activities, including CHO cell culture, transient transfection and stable pool generation;
  • Analyse, interpret and document experimental data, ensuring accurate records and high-quality scientific outputs;
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional R&D teams to develop solutions that improve recombinant protein expression;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of emerging technologies within biologics manufacturing.

What we are looking for:

  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or a related scientific discipline, with practical experience in an industrial R&D environment;
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques including cloning, vector construction, PCR, DNA purification and gel electrophoresis;
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, ideally including CHO cell culture, transient expression and stable cell line or pool generation;
  • Knowledge of fed-batch culture processes and recombinant protein expression workflows;
  • Experience with Golden Gate Assembly, Gibson Assembly and molecular biology software such as SnapGene;
  • Understanding of expression vector design and genetic regulatory elements such as promoters, enhancers or introns;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and collaborative skills, with the ability to maintain accurate scientific records and communicate findings effectively.
