Your responsibilities at Ferring:

Leadership of Medical Affairs team & strategy:

  • Manage medical team: Manage Medical Advisors, Medical Information and field/office-based team members, Recruit & onboard, develop and grow team members, Define roles and responsibilities according to the needs, Define clear and measurable objectives for the team;
  • Define medical strategy in line with company ambition and cluster scorecard/priorities;
  • In collaboration with cluster cross-functional teams, create and implement strategic and operational plans in line with Ferring’s strategy, enabling cluster/country achievement of the Medical Affairs cluster targets;
  • Ensure successful execution of the Medical Affairs strategy and plan in line and consultation with the responsible cross-functional teams.

Medical/scientific Input, oversight & execution of data generation activities:

  • Assess, design, and lead all medical activities including research programs, clinical trials, RWE programs, data mining projects, and all data generation activities;
  • Oversee and ensure excellence in local execution, timely, legally compliant, high-quality performance;
  • Develop relevant data generation activities to support the cluster;
  • In collaboration with cross-functional colleagues, represent the cluster external medical/scientific leader and be the face of Ferring with authorities, patient organisations and external opinion leaders;
  • Interacts with external scientific and clinical experts (KOLs) in relation to cluster/country, regional and global activities;
  • Internal collaboration Represent the cluster internally and provide field insights at the Global/regional Medical Affairs levels where required;
  • Responsible for Medical information management and related PV inquiries.

Lead Medical operations in the cluster:

  • Oversee execution by local medical team and provide hands on, direct support in execution of: Medical education, grants, publication, national, regional events, trainings, webinars etc., ad-boards, KOL mapping and engagements, Review of promotional and relevant non-promotional materials and activities in the appropriate systems/tools and in compliance with SOPs, rules and regulations;
  • Keep up to date, monitor and report on scientific developments and competitor activity in therapeutic areas relevant to Ferring’s interests and strategy – update relevant colleagues;
  • Compliance with GCP, SOP’s, guidelines and regulatory requirements within the country;
  • Overall responsible for resource allocation and budget control for the Medical Affairs Department, and corrective measures as necessary;
  • Responsible for scientific training for internal stakeholders;
  • Provide clinical expert opinions and training on products and therapies for internal and external customers;
  • Contributes to scientific and medical assessment of external business development opportunities.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor;
  • Ideally Business degree (MBA);
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Pharmaceutical Industry or biotechnology companies;
  • Must have significant experience in Medical Affairs, including design and oversight of clinical studies;
  • At least 5 years of management or leadership experience;
  • Current working knowledge of legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines relevant to industry interactions with health-care professionals;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and clinical operations;
  • Preferably experience of Fertility therapy area and Gastroenterology and/or urology;
  • Experience with established products (mature portfolio);
  • Experience working closely with commercial teams;
  • Hands-on approach, the Medical Director should be able to navigate from the strategy to the daily operations;
  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office (customer relationship management software, software for compliance with the law on benefits and transparency of relationships, and for medical information);
  • Fully fluent working knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Skills and technical competencies:

  • Strategic thinking, ability to develop a vision and transform it into an impactful plan;
  • Scientific/medical expertise: (including product, disease, competitive landscape, trials, regulatory, patient safety and medical information and publications) Deep understanding of the therapy area and key data, to develop and implement Ferring’s strategy within the scope of the role;
  • Data communication & presentation: Experience and know-how to consider data across the broad spectrum, set a strategy for communication and select the most appropriate information and presentation format/speakers for different audiences. Highly proficient in summarizing key data sets;
  • Data generation: Has experience of different types of clinical trials design and execution (if applicable). Has the ability to choose the most appropriate type of study, considering the needs of patients and investigators. Understanding of the strategy and anticipation of data generation and limitations;
  • Insight generation: Uses his/her experience to set up a systematic insight gathering strategy and transferring it into actionable outcomes;
  • External stakeholder management: Ability to set up clear strategic framework determining which activities and via which channels to engage in and in alignment with brand strategy and cross functional overall objectives. Ability to set up well defined KPIs to measure valuable KOL engagement and impactful execution;
  • Medical Information & Pharmacovigilance: Actively involved in MI and safety initiatives and can develop insights which can be actioned. Understands the benefit-risk assessment and management. Understands Ferring’s PV/MI System structure and interfaces. Able to identify deficiencies that can impact Ferring’s PV/MI System performance/compliance and escalate. Understands accountabilities for safety oversight of in country programs;
  • Leadership: Anticipates the needs of internal stakeholders and demonstrates leadership to ensure collaborative cross-functional working, pro-active problem solving and conflict resolution, to achieve optimal outcomes. Engages teams in the work and drives productivity and engagement (either directly or indirectly). Identifies talent and skill needs and selects high caliber talent to the company. Clearly communicates expectations and feedback to department/functional teams. Personally invests time in coaching, mentoring and teaching others;
  • Influencing and communication: Demonstrates strong presence and command of the room in large group situations. Builds collaborations across functions within the organization at the senior leadership levels. Demonstrates strong standards of emotional maturity and social intelligence. Has a reasonable level of external relationships from a networking perspective. Able to negotiate in tough situations;
  • Strategic, structured and analytical: Manages team priorities in large and complex projects and solves complex problems. Leads team to deliver high-quality output within a specific discipline. Examines complex problems with a balanced data-based viewpoint. Drives capability building around critical technical/scientific skills needed for the future.
