R&D Scientist - Biopharma LC Instrumentation

You’ll work at the intersection of science and engineering, advancing both hardware and software for the analysis of biomolecules and biopharmaceutical modalities. In this role, you will represent the voice of the customer in early concept phases, co-create solutions with engineers, and design rigorous experiments to evaluate early prototypes—ensuring our products are fit for purpose and deliver robust performance in real-world biopharma workflows.
This position is ideal for a scientist with deep practical experience in LC method development for biomolecules and a passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and evidence-based product development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Innovate & develop new and existing chromatography products that meet customer needs and industry standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, mechanical/electrical engineering, and software teams to define requirements, explore technologies, and guide product development using scientific evidence
- Design and execute hypothesis-driven experiments to assess how hardware designs influence instrument performance, robustness, and lifetime
- Evaluate prototype performance in the lab and drive iterative improvement cycles with clear, quantitative criteria
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in partnership with customer support and engineering teams
- Document and communicate findings in a reproducible manner; present results internally and externally (e.g., scientific conferences)
- Act as a subject-matter resource - mentor colleagues, lead projects, and contribute thought leadership in your area of specialization
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s or PhD in Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, or a closely related field
- 4+ years of relevant experience at advanced/independent level
- Extensive hands-on experience analyzing biomolecules/biopharmaceutical modalities (e.g., monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, peptides, oligonucleotides) using a broad range of LC modes (HILIC, RP, IEX, etc.)
- Proven ability to design rigorous experiments, generate and interpret high-quality data, and draw actionable conclusions that influence product decisions
- Strong collaboration skills across multidisciplinary R&D teams (science, engineering, software, marketing)
Strong Plus:
- Familiarity with biopharmaceutical development workflows and regulatory requirements
- Experience with instrument prototyping and prototype performance evaluation (hardware/software)
- Conference publications, application notes, and/or patent contributions
- Ability to lead projects, train/mentor others, and represent the team externally
