We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Associate Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team (Ghent, Belgium), where we strive to innovate and deliver groundbreaking medicines to patients. In this lab-focused role requiring daily on-site presence, you will plan, execute and report on experiments that contribute to the discovery and characterization of new antibody-based therapies. You will work within a multidisciplinary project team and be engaged in different stages of product development. Work description
The candidate will play a key role in the discovery, characterization, and optimization of novel therapeutic antibodies, while also contributing to the experimental derisking of complex and emerging biology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Independent Experimentation: Design and conduct experiments using a wide variety of assays and techniques to produce and timely deliver high-quality results that align with project goals;
- Collaborative Engagement: Actively participate in project teams, adjust to changing team dynamics and project requirements, and manage your workload accordingly to meet deadlines;
- Data Reporting: Document results meticulously in an electronic lab notebook, pro-actively seek feedback from various stakeholders and present insights during team meetings;
- Continuous Learning: Stay curious and open to acquiring new techniques, while sharing your knowledge with team members.
Profile
- Education: Master’s degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Industrial engineer or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree holders’ in Laboratory Science or a related field and longstanding experience are also encouraged to apply;
- Experience: 5+ years (Master’s) or 8+ years (Bachelor’s) of hands-on experience in key lab techniques such as SPR, ELISA, cell culture, flow cytometry, protein production and purification, HPLC, and SDS-PAGE; or industrial laboratory experience including qualitative data reporting, demonstrating a strong willingness and ability to quickly learn and apply new assays and techniques;
- Passion for lab work: This role is lab-focused, but reporting on generated data in lab notebooks or orally in team meetings is also part of your day-to-day-job. Motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented, accurate in execution;
- Analytical Mindset: Strong critical thinking skills to assess data quality and propose actionable next steps;
- Team Player: Adept at fostering a positive team environment and keen to work with stakeholders across various teams to achieve common goals and with good communication skills;
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in written and spoken English to ensure clear and effective information exchange.
