We are looking for a Senior Scientist for the Research and Development department at Sartorius, working within the Application and testing department. In this role, you will be responsible for applying biology knowledge in an engineering environment to support product development of novel systems used in biopharmaceutical development. This involves working in a multidisciplinary team to achieve the development projects aims and execution of experiments requiring hands – on daily testing in a laboratory environment.

- Be the lead scientist representing the Application and Testing Team in a multidisciplinary team developing new bioreactor systems for the production of biopharmaceuticals, with a focus on Cell and Gene Therapies;
- In line with Leadership Guidelines, apply strategic principles to align project goals with organizational objectives, optimize resource allocation, implement change management strategies to adapt to evolving project needs;
- Ensure development activities meet project objectives, including biological compatibility, user requirements, and ergonomics, by representing the ‘end user’ during product development;
- Design, lead and execute end-to-end bioprocess cultivations in bioreactor prototypes (from setup and scale-up to harvest), including in-process monitoring, sampling, and subsequent biological/biochemical testing;
- Analyzing results and preparing comprehensive reports, summarizing the progress of projects;
- Leading and mentoring of scientists and laboratory assistants, while fostering motivation and supporting their development;
- Working closely with customers and stakeholders to ensure their needs are met and communicated effectively, including presenting reports, project updates, or other relevant documentation;
- Ensuring health and safety and ISO standards are followed accordingly to ensure compliance and a safe working environment.
What will convince us
- PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Studies, Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field, plus a minimum of 4 years post-PhD industry or postdoctoral experience. Master’s degree candidates should have 7+ years’ relevant industry experience;
- Strong background in cell and gene therapy manufacturing or process development, T – cell biology, CAR – T production, T- cell culture;
- Experience in bioprocessing in an industrial or research laboratory, operating bioreactors at different volumes;
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills;
- Experience in designing, planning and executing experiments and delivering data and conclusions for group review;
- Product development experience is beneficial;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail;
- Ability to plan own project work and meet deadlines;
- Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
- Experience in MVDA and DOE principles is beneficial;
