Postdoc - Blood-Brain Barrier Model Development
AbbVie
Ludwigshafen, Germany
AbbVie invites applications for a postdoctoral research position focused on advancing our understanding of drug transport across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). This role is pivotal in enhancing drug delivery for neurological and neuro-oncological therapeutics, addressing the significant challenge of drug penetration into the brain tissue. The successful candidate will engage in developing state-of-the-art in vitro models using human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived cell types in transwell, organoid, and microfluidic systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop and characterize advanced in vitro models of the BBB to serve as screening platforms for brain disposition of various drug modalities;
- Correlate drug absorption data using these models with human in vivo exposure data and integrate findings into pharmacokinetic models;
- Interact with stakeholders to adapt models according to project needs;
- Attend conferences to stay at the forefront of scientific innovation and engage with leading experts in the field;
- Design and write scientific papers.
Qualifications
This is how you make a difference:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field such as cellular biology, pharmacology, neuroscience, or bioengineering;
- Proven expertise in working with hiPSCs and developing complex cellular models;
- Ability to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into actionable insights for drug development;
- Excellent scientific communication skills, demonstrated through publications and presentations;
- Ability to manage and execute multiple projects concurrently within a collaborative setting.
