The Team

The Senior Medical Advisor role is a key national Country Medical Affairs role in Austria that provides medical and scientific expertise in the Anti-Infective therapeutic area and builds scientific leadership with external experts, with a major focus on external customer facing engagement activities (typically 60% of time) and will also have responsibilities in leading the field medical team in Switzerland.

The role will participate and contribute to the design of the brand strategy and life cycle management (LCM) of Mundipharma Infective Disease Therapeutic Area, leveraging medical and scientific expertise.

Role and Responsibilities

Local Medical Strategy and Tactics

  • Develop and implement pre-launch & launch medical plans for the products of responsibility;
  • Identify information gaps based on insights gained to develop the local medical plan to address unmet medical needs in infective disease therapeutic area and in alignment with global brand plan.

External Engagement

Engage key external experts (KEEs) in scientific exchange to build deep scientific understanding and:

  • Identify potential speakers and review scientific data to prepare them, if appropriate;
  • Interact with the medical community in the context of various medical projects, such as clinical trials, investigator-initiated trials (IITs), scientific exchange meetings;
  • Lead advisory boards (set objectives and agenda, obtaining approvals, select and manage KOLs, meeting logistics and budget).

Training in therapeutic area for internal and external stakeholders

  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the therapeutic area, as well as of the drugs used for the treatment of related diseases;
  • Training to the sales network and other internal and external customers related to the therapeutic areas, diseases and treatments, and other medical areas of interest.

Provide Medical Support to cross-functional teams

  • Provide non-promotional scientific support to other company activities in close collaboration with cross-functional teams (i.e. Drug registration/Hospital formulary listing/Payer activities/Speaker training meetings);
  • Support development of value dossiers and market access activities that shape market understanding of disease, diagnosis and treatment options;
  • Ensure oversight for the development, review and approval of promotional and non-promotional materials/activities in full alignment with applicable Codes of Practice and other relevant Regulations;
  • Collaborate with the legal and compliance teams to ensure country activities fully meet company standards.

Medical Leadership

  • Provide leadership for the SwissField Medical team, ensuring a focus on medical excellence in the development and execution of Anti-Infective Medical Plans that deliver enhanced patient outcomes;
  • Coach and support the Swiss Field Medical team with a focus on development of talent and key capabilities;
  • Provide Medical governance, ensuring all our activities are in the best interests of patients and fully compliant with local regulations/codes;
  • Collaborate with the Global Medical Anti-Infectives team to ensure that insight generation, data generation and scientific communications in Austria & Switzerland aligned and in line with overall Global Therapy Area strategy.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong Medial Affairs background with relevant Medical Advisor/Senior Medical Advisor experience;
  • Ideally have a background as a qualified Medical Doctor, Pharmacist or similar (MD, MPharm or equivalent);
  • Previous Anti-infectives experience would be ideal but also open to similar therapeutic areas such as Oncology and Haematology;
  • Strong background in the Austrian Medical Affairs market - any additional experience in Switzerland would be advantageous;
  • Any critical care/ICU experience would also be beneficial;
  • Leading Medical projects and ideally have previous experience in signing off/approving promotional material;
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework that regulates the activity of Medical Affairs/MSL in a pharmaceutical company, such as the Austrian Code of Practice, and the legislation related to clinical research, drug advertising and promotion;
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English is mandatory;
  • Capability to work in cross functional project teams, especially Commercial and R&D, and in a matrix environment.
