The Research Services Lead is responsible for the service delivery and line management of Lab Support Associates at AMB.
The Research Services Lead will be the Avantor POC for all Avantor services including sample management and stock management at AMB providing end to end service linkage and provision.
The key deliverable of the role is to ensure aligned services and enhance operational effectiveness and efficiencies via fit for purpose communication pathways between AZ Sci Ops and Scientists and linked service streams and providers.
Role Overview:
The Research Service Lead will oversee and coordinate support activities within an in vivo facility. The role involves supporting research scientists with on-site service solutions for AstraZeneca. The service includes consumable management, waste management, housekeeping, equipment and enrichment activities. These services are delivered in collaboration with other supplier partners.
This position serves as a key liaison between AstraZeneca and regulatory bodies. Understanding compliance and ethical standards and policies essential.
Key responsibilities include providing scientific and technical leadership in the planning and execution of customer service delivery within an in vivo environment. Adherence to AAALAC protocols, animal welfare standards and legislation vital. The experience of supervising, coordinating and development multiple scientific support roles essential, including knowledge of working within in vivo and holding a previous PIL status.
Service(s) Responsibilities:
- Experience working with in vivo research. Individuals who have held PIL license preferred;
- Manage the on-site Avantor Lab Support teams ensuring fit for purpose service delivery to the lab and supporting areas;
- Establish and maintain dotted line responsibility for sample and stock management and supply chain activities to ensure a holistic approach to service delivery;
- Establish and maintain the position of Avantor Services site, point of contact (POC) for stakeholders and scientists ensuring coordination of all services and communication streams;
- Maintain quality services provision by interpretating and responding to customer requests and recommending improvements and efficiencies;
- Maintain a comprehensive operational cross service and metrics knowledge base;
- Manage demand capacity, resource resilience, and ensure service deliverables remain within agreed parameters;
- Ensure resource resilience, management of cross training and succession planning to ensure business and service continuity;
- Propose and lead improvement and innovation projects;
- Utilise Lean methodologies and tools to ensure optimised service and process evaluation;
- Provide an aligned and balanced services that fulfil stakeholder and scientific expectations within the current Avantor service scope.
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Articulate Avantor services to be able to respond and direct at multiple requester levels;
- Ensure high level understanding and response processes of internal and partner services ensuring collaboration and end to end service provision;
- Establish and maintain dynamic escalation and support structures with the Lab Operations Manager;
- Ensure co-ordination and proactive execution of daily operational activities for all Avantor services;
- Manage performance and objective setting as per Avantor organisational requirements;
- Manage all documentation for service delivery, compliance, H&S and training;
- Lead health and safety inspections, service audits and action follow up and completion;
- Support all service networks and work streams to ensure cross site engagement and visibility of work practices and innovations;
- Reporting:
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly data required for the review slides for AstraZeneca governance reviews, including KPI data capture along with analysis of any deviations;
- Manage and report all unsafe acts, conditions or near misses on to ProcessMap and SHE Enablon;
- Innovation cost saving management and tracker update.
Role Expectations:
Skills:
- PhD or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology or a related field;
- Knowledge of animal ethic regulations, IACUC procedures and AAALAAC standards;
- Extension experience with line management;
- Experience working with in vivo facility;
- Service ownership and responsiveness;
- Able to adapt to emerging best practices and industry innovations;
- Outstanding communication skills on all levels and problem-solving capabilities;
- Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively;
