The Senior Pharmaceutical Science Early Phase Expert must have a background in solid state, developability aspects and pre-clinical formulation development. Expertise in the screening for bioenhancer technology is required and clear understanding of requirement for early phase development step and toxicology formulation requirement.

The successful applicant will participate in the achievement of the Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing department goals. They will be responsible for preparing and supporting the client in strategy definition for early phase screening in preclinical area and developability stage, leading several formulation development studies including customer interaction and development of new business.

The successful candidate will have a wealth of experience within the formulation development business from Discovery service and serve not only as a leader but also as technical expert of formulation development at early stage

Responsibilities:

• Act as the first contact as expert in Developability and Formulation Screening for preclinical formulation, attending scoping call with client or presenting Evotec capabilities;
• Act as a mentor for junior colleagues on scoping call, project evaluation/strategy definition and proposal preparation;
• Act as a Developability and preclinical formulation expert internally and externally; provide scientific advice, elaborate formulation strategies, support and lead scientific teams or complex projects to deliver excellence internally and to Evotec’s customers;
• Give support to set the scientific baseline of projects at the start and at key stages (to be present at the start of new projects, at some kick-off), to identify potential issues before their occurrence and working with colleagues to prevent them. In addition, to communicate and evaluate project results (for internal meetings and customer meetings);
• Act as an expert representing the Pharmaceutical Development Area in presentations to external companies/clients and at external events like conference or webinars.

Requirements:

• PhD in Pharmaceutics, or other relevant Chemistry related degree along with industrial experience within Formulation;
• Experience of working in a CDMO environment would be advantageous;
• At least 10-15 years of experience in Formulation techniques, in particular techniques used for delivery of insoluble drugs in non-clinical studies;
• Knowledge in providing formulation solutions for quick access to non-GLP in vivo preclinical studies and a rapid transition to first GLP tox dosing;
• Prior project leadership experience is essential;
• Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, as well as listening and interpersonal skills;
• Able to anticipate roadblocks and make contingency plans where needed;
• Experienced in management of complex projects.
