The Head of Program Management will have line management responsibility and accountability for Bio R&D program management, maintaining oversight over the innovation portfolio across several modalities, e.g. mammalian and microbial bioprocessing, bioconjugates and mRNA and across a global network of R&D facilities.

The role will involve oversight of multiple innovation programs across different modalities ensuring these deliver within agreed budget spend, quality and time, escalation of any deviations from the plan, and orchestrating portfolio reviews and reporting.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain overview of portfolio status, monitoring budget spend, risk and issues, delivery of output, reporting and escalation of any deviations from the plan; this includes orchestration of Portfolio Review Meetings and monthly reports;
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop and manage program scope, budgets and deliverables and understand risks; ensure alignment with major stakeholders (such as CoE Directors, Commercial Development, Operations);
  • Prioritize and manage the Innovation Portfolio in collaboration with External Innovation;
  • Support and motivate multi-disciplinary program teams; keep team members accountable to deliver and informed of any projects linked to their own;
  • Conduct Portfolio and Program Meetings with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Influence senior management to secure required resources and capacity commitments and obtain buy-in of all relevant stakeholders;
  • Represent the Innovation Portfolio within the Lonza Network and be a project advocate;
  • In charge of Program Managements Processes and Tools.

Key requirements:

  • Degree in Biology/Biotechnology; PhD preferred;
  • Highly experienced in the field of Program Management, ideally in an R&D setting in the life sciences;
  • Excellent communicator;
  • Proven track-record in leading a successful team;
  • Proficient in MS Office and Project Management tools (e.g. MS Project).
