As senior drug discovery expert, you combine a strong pharma industry background with scientific expertise in respiratory diseases. In addition, you are a creative driver of change and experienced in motivating and developing diverse multidisciplinary teams operating at the cutting edge of science.

As Group Leader in the area of Immunology and Respiratory Diseases Research, you will lead a group of more than 25 scientists actively contributing to the discovery of breakthrough therapies that aim to repair and regenerate the lungs of pulmonary fibrosis patients.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As senior leader on both global and local leadership teams, you contribute to scientific and strategic direction for both immunology and respiratory research;
  • In your exploratory portfolio coordinator role, you mentor project champions & work seamlessly with our early innovation forum and late portfolio coordinators to drive and sustain our therapeutic projects;
  • You lead projects from idea- to start of development, effectively managing the interface between multiple disciplines (MedChem, Biologics, DMPK, biomarkers and clinical) – particularly through governance interactions;
  • The establishment of novel techniques within our department is also part of your role - drive innovation in our scientific thinking and approach to drug discovery.
  • You are an accomplished leader of people, responsible for the motivation and development of 4-5 laboratory leaders and their groups (incl. post doc-, PhD- and MSc academic team members).


  • Doctoral degree in natural science or equivalent, with several years of professional leadership experience in the pharma industry in a highly innovative and international environment;
  • Thorough track record of leadership in early research projects to late stage preclinical development;
  • Profound knowledge in the area of respiratory diseases and/or repair/regenerative biology with demonstrated innovation in applied technologies (in vitro or in vivo);
  • Result oriented and self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills;
  • Ability to lead, encourage and grow a team with intercultural competencies and sound track record of collaboration;
  • Strong scientific record with a global network in the academic- and pharma industry.
