The position:

Coordinate, manage, coach and motivate a team of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) within the Daiichi Sankyo Oncology Medical Affairs Department. Ensure the strategic medical plan implementation and ensure that medical activities and projects are applied in accordance with high scientific and ethical quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, develop and lead a team of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in line with Daiichi Sankyo’s strategies, procedures and specifications, in order to enhance individual and team performance and team spirit;
  • Demonstrate mastery and innovation in the ability to develop on-going professional relationships with national healthcare opinion leaders and healthcare professionals to provide medical and scientific support for Daiichi Sankyo initiatives in Oncology and other selected therapeutic areas;
  • Work transversally with the different departments in order to guarantee the coherence of actions and the non-promotional character of medical activities;
  • Promote the cross-functionality and harmonization of MSL practices, in line with company’s strategies and proactively propose processes optimization for MSLs activities.
  • Contribute to the scientific quality of medical documentation by reviewing scientific material used by the MSLs;
  • Contribute to adequate use of medicines by participating in the medical education of Sales Representatives;
  • Drive their operational excellence by setting up and analyzing dashboards, delivering recommendations and solutions to field’s feedback. Strengthen cross-functional collaboration and strategic global alignment;
  • Develop MSLs scientific and professional skills and participate in the development and updating of training materials;
  • Provides scientific support to customer facing functions and conducts internal trainings to keep them updated on clinical data and scientific insights;
  • Support the MSLs on a daily basis to ensure their effectiveness, with the goal of achieving individual and team objectives. Ensure the quality of the scientific discussions and ideas generation;
  • Develop, support a network of key opinion leaders, key decision makers and scientific society and assure appropriate follow-up in order to enhance visibility of the company in the Oncology area; Support influencers KOLs in preparing and delivering presentations and scientific contributions upon request, e.g. accompanies to international and national congresses and scientific events;
  • Enhances company reputation in terms of medical and scientific expertise by engaging and discussing with thought leaders and key influencers on a high scientific level;
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with all team members, R&D and other internal functions, implement product strategies and field feedback, in order to improve product performance;
  • Responsible for the quality and scientific integrity of medical activities on a national level: understand the global medical strategy to support its regional implementation and monitoring;
  • Analyze and validate MSL field activities, collaborate in medical plans preparation, define and monitor the medical activities in order to ensure the field implementation of the medical plans, in line with company’s orientations;
  • Supervise the conduct of scientific projects with the objective to meet the strategic medical needs;
  • Supports the development and implementation of clinical trials and registries as planned by the medical team at a national level;
  • Contribute to the establishment of trusted relationships and partnerships with the Medical Departments as well as the global teams in charge of clinical development in order to promote clinical trials in Italy through the involvement of MSLs. Optimize the collaboration with Clinical Operations by defining the role of MSLs in each clinical study and by consolidating their feedback;
  • Develop a set of scientific support tools in conjunction with the Medical Manager and any relevant internal medical stakeholders (Q&A, scientific presentations, etc.);
  • Develops and implements medical education programs across the scientific community;
  • Ensure the budgetary control and monitoring of medical field activities, manage the schedule of MSL activities;
  • Continuously engages to improve Daiichi Sankyo capabilities building scientific knowledge and gathering competitive intelligence to enable effective decision-making, customer engagement and brand performance;
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with the applicable laws, rules and regulations;
  • Temporarily manages Lazio, Abruzzo and Sardinia area, acting as MSL (for around 15% of working time).

Qualifications:

  • Scientific background (MD, PhD, or other scientific degree with strong experience in Medical Affairs and Oncology) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical field position, ideally MSL;
  • Knowledge in clinical study management and conduct (all stages of drug development), clinical research, analysis of clinical data and publications, preferably in oncology;
  • Experience in operational tasks, affiliate Medical Affairs Department or Clinical Development;
  • Knowledge of local pharmaceutical industry and legal/health system environment, including pricing, re-imbursement and access;
  • Analytical skills: identify and communicate key information within medical affairs and other functions proactively and timely in high quality;
  • Continuously expand medical and scientific knowledge as well as market knowledge;
  • Exhibit and advance knowledge of health systems and decision making in health care;
  • Demonstrate strong project management and medical affairs skills (trial design/data quality control and analysis/clinical pharmacology/etc.) preferably in the oncology setting and with multifunctional teams;
  • Display strong organizational and time management skills, role model for implementation of plans and tasks on commitment in time;
  • Display strong customer orientation, is medical-science based and marketing minded;
  • Anticipate future industry trends and opportunities, proactively and communicate them to management;
  • Strong leadership and proven ability to work in a matrix and multicultural organization and strong analytical and synthesizing skills;
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively;
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills;
  • Very good English and MS-Office plus CRM skills.
