Systems Engineer - Bioinformatics

Omics data like genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics play a key role in drug discovery at Evotec today and will do even more in the future. The analysis and interpretation of huge data sets with specialized bioinformatics tools and AI helps us to make better decisions for new medicines that matter. Managing the omics data, HPC infrastructure and software stack comes with unique challenges. If you have a background in systems engineering and would like to explore the application in life sciences or if you are a bioinformatician with a strong interest in the infrastructure aspects, this may be the challenge you are seeking.

Your key responsibilities

Administration of linux servers and bioinformatics software in an HPC environment;
Interact with researchers and IT departments to define and implement new requirements;
System documentation, maintenance and optimization;
Support scientific teams with software review and installation.

Your qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field;
Experience with linux server administration, High Performance Computing (HPC) and workload management (e.g. Slurm) in a multi-user environment;
Familiar with container technologies and environment management (e.g. Docker, Singularity, Conda);
Knowledge of software development methodology and programming experience is a plus;
Experience with bioinformatics tools is a plus;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment;
Fluency in English.
