General Description:

The Country Medical Director Poland is the local medical expert within the organization, directly supporting the respective product assets through development, pre-marketing, launch, marketing support and lifecycle management. This includes all areas of Medical Affairs activities such as support of safe and appropriate product use, data-generation, data-dissemination, HCP interactions and compliance with GCP. Subject matter expertise in Haemato-Oncology and Oncology is preferred. The incumbent will also lead a team of Field Medical Associates and will play a key role in the establishment of BeiGene as a valued collaborator and best-in-class biopharmaceutical company in the country.

The role is part of a matrix organization, reporting to the Sr. Medical Director of the Sub-Region Europe (SRE). Strong collaboration with Commercial and Market Access, Regulatory, Quality and Pharmacovigilance within the country is key as well as with Clinical Development on country, regional and global level. It requires close interaction with local stakeholders with respect to the allocated disease area(s) (Haemato-oncology) to assure strategic dialogue considering local specifics and input as well as global and regional guidance.

Essential Functions of the Job:

The Country Medical Director will provide local input into the global and or regional product and indication strategies and will together with the commercial and market access team drive the local go-to-market strategy and will translate this in country specific tactics and tools, messaging and tactical implementation, assuring alignment across global, regional and local strategies.

As a leader in the local organization, the incumbent will support the development of local and regional Medical strategies to support enduring and compliant relationships with Opinion Leaders, Research Collaborators, and Key Organizations in support of BeiGene’s pipeline development across the allocated disease area. Close collaboration and alignment with SRE Medical Director and Country Manager is essential.

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Matrix Leadership and direct Line Management for Country Field Medical Associates;
  • Develop and implement medical strategies and plans for responsible products, ensure strategic alignment with local, regional, global strategy and local business needs;
  • Establish and maintain scientifically credible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with key national & regional opinion leaders in addition to other healthcare providers. Viewed as a Scientific Partner by Medical Experts;
  • Leadership in the development and execution of clinically relevant local medical meetings, e.g. medical advisory board meetings, national scientific events, consultancy activities and investigator meetings;
  • Close collaboration with local, regional and global commercial teams regarding pre-launch, launch and commercialization support, assuring timely medical input and accuracy of medical and scientific content;
  • Close collaboration with the local cross functional team. Pro-active contribution to local, regional and global brand and disease area strategies including:
    • Medical & Scientific Gap analyses;
    • Identification of areas of interest with respect to Investigator Initiated Studies;
    • Publication Planning;
    • Local and regional data-dissemination (e.g., company sponsored symposia, congress submissions, medical education activities);
    • Local HCP interactions/outreach (e.g., investigator meetings, advisory boards);
    • Deliver and review high quality medical education and training materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate & monitor strategic partnerships with scientific/clinical experts and serve as the local point of contact with organizations including but not limited to:
    • All relevant local Authorities and Associations;
    • Cooperative Groups;
    • Other (Regional/National Cancer institutions);
    • Patient Advocacy Groups.
  • Align with brand strategy and according to unmet medical needs, design, implement and manage post-marketing study/ISR to ensure scientific accuracy, GCP/ethical compliance and publication plan;
  • Support cross-regional Medical Affairs tactics and activities that are impactful and value adding, and that are founded on collaborative and Peer-2-Peer relationships with external stakeholders;
  • Develop, track, execute and report on goals and objectives;
  • Support local Medical Affairs budget planning and management;
  • Serve as medical/science resource (strategy and content) to other functions: Marketing, Regulatory, Market Access, Pharmacovigilance and Risk Management groups
  • Works in a compliant manner and contributes to the culture of the wider team in up-skilling compliance skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent will be responsible to manage the Field-based Medical Associates in the country.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • MD Physician/PhD with a minimum 10 years’ experience and proven success within other Biotech or Pharmaceutical companies;
  • Previous experience in managing a team of Medical Affairs associates is preferred;
  • Expert understanding of the local health care delivery system, including the managed care arena and its impact on patient care, regional medical care and the pharmaceutical industry. Ability to identify the unmet medical, educational, and research needs at a local & regional level in the medical community;
  • Strong comprehension of disease states, and knowledge of differential algorithms for treatment decisions and experience in disease states of interest to BeiGene. Preferably a track record of experience (clinical and industry) in the field of Haemato-Oncology;
  • Ability to interpret key scientific data and translate the findings to meet educational and research needs to affect corporate research strategic activities and decisions;
  • Understanding of the design and execution of research studies and strategic implications;
  • Flexibility to work with colleagues in a virtual and regional setting;
  • Experience of working in a local, regional role/multi country set-up an advantage;
  • High level of communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, and cross functional collaboration skills. English proficiency mandatory;
  • Highest ethical standards in corporate medical governance;
  • Able to engage in work-related travel approximately 25%-50%.
